Enlightening!

Young creative scientists build lighting systems for dollhouses.

One of the highlights of our 4th grade science class is the construction of a lighting system for a dollhouse. With a lot of dedicated effort, students built small rooms out of shoe boxes and decorated them in various ways. The building models included an apartment for a mouse, a pool landscape, a dance studio and a small forest. The students were eager to put lights in their mini rooms and decided that installing light switches will save energy and battery life.

After careful planning, each team sketched their ideas and drafted 鈥渟hopping lists鈥 for materials such as pole clamps, light bulbs, batteries and lead wires.

After much enthusiastic work by the students following the scientific method, the teachers Ms. Ascencio, Ms. Colopy and Ms. Sura heard exclamations from all workstations: 鈥淚t shines!鈥 or 鈥淚t works!鈥. At the conclusion of science class, each team proudly presented its radiant room.

Here is a short report from Eric P. (4b):

"Our last Nawi lesson was cool. We built an electric circuit! For that we used two light bulbs, sockets, pole clamps, a flat battery (4.5V) and a switch. I worked with Kian. We are now real electricity experts because we finished first!"

In Nawi that means, you win the鈥 Nobel Prize鈥 and get to help other teams.
