Water Main Break

Liebe Familien,

Dear Families,

Due to a water main break the 海角原创 will be without water for the foreseeable future. We have decided to end classes early and request that you pick up your children starting 12:15 pm, if they are not bus riders.

The buses leave the school at 12:15 pm. If you don鈥檛 want your bus rider to take the bus today, report them immediately to 301.767.3800. Your child will then be looked after at school until you pick them up.

If one parent picks up more than one child, please be prepared to show your ID and a text message or email from the parents of the children being picked up.

Please pick up your children at the main entrance of the main building. Students who have to wait at school we will supervised and cared for until you come to pick them up. This school closing decision is congruent with health ordinances established for local schools.

We regret the circumstance and please stay tuned for further messages.

Grades 5-12

In the Upper School, our students acquire mastery of 12 academic subjects 鈥 in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, foreign languages, social sciences and the arts 鈥 while developing important leadership skills and critical judgment. In other words, our Upper School prepares them not just to excel in college and their professional careers, but to become engaged citizens of the world.

At the GISW, students think in German and live German culture every day. Most classes are held in German, although some are taught bilingually in German and English on a rotating basis. In sixth grade, students may choose to study French or Spanish as a third language. Latin is offered beginning in eighth grade, and a fourth modern language in tenth. By the time they graduate, many of our students are fluent in three or four languages.

Classes in biology, chemistry, and physics are taught every year from seventh through 12th grade in our modern science building. Students discover scientific principles primarily through hands-on experimentation.

College Preparation
We offer a range of AP (Advanced Placement) courses. In grade 11, English, German, and Calculus AB are offered at AP level. In grade 12, we offer German, English (Language and Literature), French, Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, and Statistics at the AP level. GISW students register for the AP exams through the counselor, Ms. Klara Fabina (counselor@giswashington.org). The exams take place in May at the GISW.

Students graduate with two degrees, the globally recognized German International Abitur (DIA) and an American high-school diploma.

Graduates of the GISW go on to attend some of the most competitive colleges and universities around the world. In recent years, these have included Ivy League institutions, such as Harvard University and Yale University, as well as renowned universities in Europe and Asia.
