Book Reading: Thomas Harding

Author Visit at the Elementary School in English Classes 3 and 4

The Elementary School had a virtual author visit on June 10th, 2021 by Thomas Harding. British award-winning and bestselling author Thomas Harding is a journalist and former documentary maker. Mr. Harding has also written for the Financial Times, Sunday Times, the Washington Post, and the Guardian, among other publications.

Mr. Harding joined us via Zoom from England during our English classes, accompanied by representatives of the German Embassy, who had initiated this historical and cultural outreach event. The visit took place in form of a digital book presentation and book discussion about his children鈥檚 book 鈥淭he House by the Lake鈥. The book had been previously discussed in class by the English teachers at all levels.

A lively exchange of questions and answers followed the reading by Mr. Harding who enjoyed responding to thought-provoking questions posed by students.

Some questions asked were:

  • Why did you decide to tell the story about this house, and not any other?
  • What is your intended meaning when you tell young people about this house with your book?
  • What do you think would have happened to the house if you had not found it and repaired in 2013?
  • Do you feel like you have a strong connection to the house?

This special event and visit were enjoyed by all.
